Have-a-go at bagpipes and drumming

Kerry Marshall from Napier Pipe Band Inc

Ever wanted to have a go at pipe band drumming or playing the bagpipes? Organisers of the national pipe band championships are providing an opportunity for youngsters to “Have-a-Go” at bagpipes and drums. The Have-a-Go tent will be operating on the morning of Saturday 20 March at the National Pipe Band Championships. Youngsters who would like to know more about bagpiping and pipe band drumming can talk to people and beat a drum, blow a chanter or raise a mace. Playing drums and bagpipes in a pipe band is a great experience for youngsters and this year’s contest features a record number of entries in the juvenile competition. The contest is being staged at Mitre10 Park, Percival Road, Hastings - entry to the park will be by gold coin donation. The competition starts at 9am on Friday 19th and continues until late afternoon Saturday 20th. More details are on the contest website nzpbchamps.nz

Poll: Have you ever been bullied?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

People associate bullying with children in schools, but it can actually stretch beyond childhood to workplaces or neighbourhoods.

This Friday is Pink Shirt Day, which began in Canada in 2007 when two students took a stand against homophobic bullying after a new student was harassed for wearing pink. People across the globe are now encouraged to wear pink on this day to take a stand against bullying and promote inclusivity.

Have you or your whānau ever experienced bullying? Share your thoughts on Pink Shirt Day below.
