Thank you to all those who have visited Bayon Cafe at 18 Carlysle St and "paid it forward" for coffee for the emergency workers that Jack and Lisa have been supporting.

From now until Saturday morning, expect 150 to 200mm of rain about the ranges and also away from the ranges north of Hastings (this includes the Esk Valley area and the Wairoa District), and 75 to 100mm elsewhere. The heaviest falls are likely from 3pm Friday, with peak rates of 20 to 30mm/h possible.
Heavy rain may cause streams and rivers to rise rapidly. Surface flooding and slips are also possible and driving conditions may be hazardous.

Firstly, we take many measures to ensure your curtains get as clean as possible without shrinkage or colour loss. Recently we have had to re-wash curtains that have been washed but there is still traces of mould or live mould left on the curtain. We take careful steps to ensure this is eliminated as much as possible on the curtain fabric, and can always remove it from linings. These results are simply unable to be duplicated in a home environment.
Spray on curtain cleaning products contain sodium hypochlorite, aka bleach. If you use products to remove mould, it can result in colour loss. This is one of the more common problems we have seen. We test all fabric before cleaning to be sure of what cleaners can be used with it.
Washing curtains in the washing machine can result in other damage – curtains need to be handled with care, especially older fabrics. It is expensive getting a curtain re-lined due to rips – we take extra care in preventing this from happening.
In addition to the above – most of the time, they will come out of the machine wrinkly and look terrible, no matter the fabric type. Our service ensures they look great and ‘like new’ as they can when returned to you (and of course, fresh and clean).
Don’t make the same mistake, call us (the experts) instead.

Lisa, one of the owners, said to the officer, that the coffee was free to him as he was one of the frontline staff helping during the rescue/search efforts. In conversation ,with Lisa and Jack [ her husband ] it appears as if they have been doing this since reopening, even going so far as to give some food, from the little that they have been able to make, to the Australian contingent who are here helping out. They do this as an appreciation from their hearts for the work that all these people are doing even though coffee was one of the few things they had to sell to try and create some income to cover their outgoings such as rent, mortgage etc. With a family of seven to support and the trying times of covid lockdowns I know personally, that they are struggling to support themselves and pay outgoings yet they still think of others first, they even still support education for children in Cambodia. Another customer, who was in the shop at the time I was there, suggested that a pay forward scheme could be operated at the shop for other customers to show their appreciation, to the frontline staff, and help pay for what Jack and Lisa are now bearing the cost of.
Although they are now open there are still problems with getting baking supplies but things are improving so please do not be put off if the goodie you wanted with your coffee is not available yet.
I personally think it a great thing that they are doing and will fully support it as well as the shop. WILL YOU ?
Please note that this is not a sob story but a genuine effort on my part to help this couple helping others even when they need help themselves See you there for your coffee fix and nibbles.

I'm desperately seeking this allergy formula for my son which is proving very difficult in the crazy aftermath of the cyclone. Any help on how to contact her (or hoping Rachel may see this?) would be amazing. TIA :)
