Old Winery on Faraday St, Napier
Hi there,
We are creating a website about the winery on Faraday St, Hospital Hill Napier.
We would like to invite those who were employed at McWilliams winery (as it was known then) to send us your story.
If you are happy to contribute your working experience to the website please include:
The year you started,
How long you were employed with McWilliams winery,
Your role ie: Vinter(winemaker), Grape crusher, Bottler, Grader, Security Guard, Management team, Barrel/Vat maker, Cleaner, Engineer or tell us what you were employed as.
Your experiences during your time with McWilliams.
When you finished working at the winery or if you were with the winery the day it closed down.
We are also interested in the history of the property before the winery was built in 1936 post earthquake 1931. Thus far information from Heritage NZ and others are being compiled for the website.
If you have a story or know any history please send us an email: info@theoldwinery.co.nz
Thank you in advance.

Poll: Are Kiwis allergic to “exuberance”? 🥝
In The Post’s opinion piece on the developments set to open across Aotearoa in 2026, John Coop suggests that, as a nation, we’re “allergic to exuberance.”
We want to know: Are we really allergic to showing our excitement?
Is it time to lean into a more optimistic view of the place we call home? As big projects take shape and new opportunities emerge, perhaps it’s worth asking whether a little more confidence (and enthusiasm!) could do us some good.
