Potential Covid-19 boat sits idle off Napier coast
Those onboard the Ken Rei shipping vessel, considered close contacts of the country’s latest community case of Covid-19, are sitting in the waters off Napier, waiting to be tested for the virus.
The fate of the 29 people onboard remains in limbo, as officials decide whether to allow them to dock in Napier, or whether medics will be sent either via helicopter or boat, to carry out testing.
It was understood Napier Port does not want the vessel to berth there, with Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield saying there was a possibility the vessel could be sent to Auckland and testing would be conducted there.
