Snow fall closes State Highway 87 in Otago
Early this morning, the NZ Transport Agency was advising snow had closed State Highway 87 from Outram, inland from Dunedin, north to Kyeburn. MetService is warning snow could fall on the South Island high passes from later on Monday through to Tuesday.
During the morning the snow was expected to fall to 600m in Otago and to between 700 and 800m in South Canterbury. "In the second half of the day, rain and snow becomes more persistent through those areas, particularly through Canterbury expect snow to 200m," MetService lead meteorologist Mark Todd said around 5am on this morning.
