Kawau Island and Sandspit residents want better communication from Auckland Transport after being given three weeks' notice access to Sandspit wharf could stop or be restricted for three months.

This in the lead in to the busiest times of the year.

In an extraordinary turn of events, Kawau Island and Sandspit residents and businesses, and the Rodney Local Board, banded together to convince AT shutting or restricting access would be disastrous for residents, tourism and emergency services, and could jeopardise businesses and people's livelihoods.

Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
