Poll: Spark NZ: charging more for less. How many of you will be paying?

Rex from Wainuiomata

Spark has announced that, because it costs so much to maintain their outdated copper wire network, they're raising prices for those using it.

But they don't provide anything else to Wainuiomata. So it's not as though we're *choosing* to use the network - which our parents and grandparents paid to have built in the old NZPO days, but which they haven't spent any of their profit on maintaining since they bought it.

We're being told we must pay more for less. It's like walking into McDonalds and being told "we haven't maintained our ovens, so all we can offer is salad. But you'll need to pay $5 more for the salad so we can call an electrician".

I've already told them no. I made the above point to them and got "we understand your frustration, thanks for letting is know" 🙄

There are competitors offering ADSL & VDSL (& I'm aware of one who'll give you a choice of new Samsung appliances if you switch, which will more than compensate for any early termination / new install costs).

So I'm curious. Who intends to #paySparkmoreforless and who has had enough?

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
