Notice of Motion – Councillor McLeod

Purpose of report

1. To consider a Notice of Motion received from Councillor McLeod.

Recommendation

That Council:

(i) requests that the Government, giving respect of the four community well-beings (social, environment,

economic and cultural) in the Local Government Act, places an immediate moratorium on any current

consents for the extraction of water from the Upper Hutt groundwater system for the purposes of

retail and wholesale where the end product is bottled water; and

(ii) requests that the Government directs regional authorities to publicly notify any future applications.

Background

2. The Chief Executive has received a Notice of Motion from Councillor McLeod within the timeframe

specified in Standing Orders. This Notice of Motion is for inclusion on the agenda of the Policy

Committee to be held on 18 September 2019.

3. Councillor McLeod proposes to move the motion outlined in the recommendation section of the

report.

4. Councillor McLeod’s signed Notice of Motion and supporting information is attached to the report.
