Wastewater overflows in Lower Hutt 7.6.18
When there's heavy rainfall, like there has been over the past couple of days, lots of water can end up in the wastewater network (instead of travelling through the stormwater network).
Our wastewater pump stations and treatment plants are not able to cope with the extra volume of wastewater, and this can result in a wastewater overflow.
We always recommend you do not swim in harbours and rivers following heavy rainfalls, for at least 48 hours.
Recent rain has overloaded our wastewater system in parts of Hutt Valley and Wainuiomata, which lead to some overflows today into streams and the harbour, in the following consented locations:
- Waiwhetu Stream, Seaview
- Wellington Rd, Wainuiomata
- Bluff Point, Pencarrow
Please note the following:
- Regional Public Health recommends no swimming in the affected area.
- Health Warning signs will be posted around the immediate areas
