New Zealand is still exposed to the new, more contagious, strains of Covid-19 despite the Government recently bolstering its border and pre-departure defences.
The number of daily Covid-19 tracer app scans has dropped from one million a day, at its height, to the current low of 300,000.
That means that if the more contagious variants get into the community, it will be hard to trace contacts.

there is now not a lot that would help slow the beast - nor much easy access for the services to get there..jus sayin....
Cmon WRC lockdown long over and I am sure there are plenty of staff able to get the toys out and go clear our firebreaks again....

You can see he's looking sideways to do a quick threat assessment, but doesn't stop feeding. Probably decided he could do me over if he had to. It is amazing how many little fish they catch like this. I saw him gobbling several little morsels down, probably slightly bigger than whitebait. They scythe their beaks back and forth like old-time hay gatherers, snapping them shut on tasty things, then quickly tip their heads back to swallow their prey whole. Royal spoonbill/kōtuku ngutupapa (Platalea regia). Between tides/closer to low tide is probably the best time to see them at the Hutt Estuary.
