We’re looking for the nicest neighbours in town, and Pam Driver of Burswood has shared her lovely neighbours, David and Lara Hurst, saying they “are just wonderful”.

This year, Pam had a missing cat, which was quite out of character. Driver let the Hursts know, and they joined the search, successfully locating him in the gap between the ceiling and roof of their neighbour’s house.

Pam said “They rescued him and brought him home to me... complete with some scratches! I hate to think what would have happened had he not been found”.

Pam nominated the Hursts to let them know she is thankful for them: “It’s so good to know I have such caring neighbours who have my back. Thank you neighbours!”

Nominate someone in your hood, and your special neighbour could feature on Stuff and Neighbourly as an inspiration to us all (plus there are prizes to be won!).

Brother HL-2040 Laser Printer - Free

I even have a spare ink cartridge (which last for ages - these cost around $90-$100 each and are readily available on the internet). It is working, but the paper does jam occasionally, and you sometimes have to unscrew the front to clear it, which is a bit of a palaver. It probably needs a service, but as I have two other perfectly good printers, I have decided to get rid of this one. You will need your own USB to printer port cable as I use the same one for all of my printers. Black only, takes A4 paper and envelopes.

It’s surrounded by memories of her late mother, who never got to share her own wedding dress because it was lost in a fire.
But in a series of unfortunate events, McQuaid’s dress was accidentally donated to charity after she lent it to a friend who was recently engaged.
Now she is keen to get it back.
She believes it was given to Lower Hutt Salvation Army.

This is just to invite some comment.

A lot of (expensive) re-development is scheduled for the riverbank much of which is reputed to be to safeguard the Hutt Valley from future floods.

In the 1960's at least, and probably earlier and later than the 60's, shingle was bulldozed from the river regularly which kept the river bed at a safe level and provided protection when the river did rise. And it did then and still does. The shingle was processed by River Shingle & Sand and later Winstones for the construction industry.

We still build homes and commercial buildings don't we? Where do we get the mix for infill and concrete from? Not only are we ignoring a product that is useful and readily available but the removal of it helps to safeguard our community.

I am curious to hear from people think. Many would not even know that the riverbed shingle has a use. Look at the steadily rising level of the riverbed next time you drive by or take the dog for a walk. A major flood may not be that far away.
