Ben Schrader will look at design of the state houses and some of the other buildings in Naenae. Why were these places important in the 1940s and 50s and do they remain so now?

Ben Schrader is a Wellington historian who researched the history of Naenae for his MA thesis in history in the early 1990s and remains a strong supporter of the place.

Naenae Library - Friday 12 October, 6pm

Naenae Library also has a special display up ‘Snap Shot of Naenae's Past’. Why not have a wander around the display, hear from Ben at 6pm then grab some kai and stock up on veges after the talk at the Naenae Market!

Summer at the Bay

Friday 12th Oct 10am - 12 midday
Thursday 11th October 10am - 12 midday (Sorry Full)

A great way to give youth a sense of achievement through creativity. In this 2 hour fun art session, we’ll be painting a summer beach scene with a pohutakawa tree and cover the basics of watercolour painting. The drawing will already be done to enable us to focus on the joys of watercolour painting. All materials will be supplied, just turn up empty handed and they'll leave 2 hours later with their own completed watercolour painting to be proud of and a smile of creative satisfaction on their dial.

Cost $25 (This class is generously sponsored by Watercolour New Zealand who have subsidized half of the $50 normal course fee for youth).

Suitable for ages from 7 years old through to late teens.

If you would like to be kept informed of future youth art classes please message me,

A brand of frozen mixed berries has been recalled because of "foreign matter", namely metal in the product.

The Ministry for Primary Industries said Nelson-based FSL Foods Ltd recalled a specific batch of Fruzio brand premium mixed berries "as the product may contain foreign matter (metal)".

The affected berries are sold frozen in 1kg plastic bags and have a best before date of June 22, 2021. They're sold in New World and Pak'nSave supermarkets, as well as Gilmours stores in the North Island.

The product is not exported and the recall does not affect any other Fruzio products, MPI says.

If people have brought the berries they should check the date mark on the back of the product. Affected product should not be consumed, is the advice given on the MPI website. Read more from Stuff here.
