It's been awesome to see so many people looking after and loving our water over the (hot) past few days.

To celebrate these awesome people, and to make the most of being outdoors in the sunshine, we thought it was the perfect time for a rock hunt.

We've hidden some #loveeverydrop rocks around Lower Hutt, and if you find one and bring it in to Wellington Water's office and you will receive a prize.

So put your explorer boots on, slap on some sunscreen, and get hunting around the Lower Hutt region as there are only 10 to be found.

Over the next few weeks we'll be hiding some rocks in Porirua, Wellington and Upper Hutt, so keep your eyes peeled to find out when the rocks are in your region.

'Massive' demand for Wellington rentals and shortage won't ease soon, Trademe says

Wellington is bearing the brunt of fierce demand for rentals, and there is no relief on the horizon.

Head of Trade Me Property Nigel Jeffries said the demand in Wellington was "massive", with the number of available rentals dropping 70 per cent on December 2016.

January "is likely to be even more extreme", he said.

In one case, a two-bedroom rental in Wellington was listed for 25 hours before it was taken down due to a flood of 55 applications.

The capital also saw the highest rise in median weekly rent over the last two months, up $30, from $450 to $480 in December.

The latest Trade Me Property Rental Index shows fewer listings compared to last year, and the cost of rent was on the rise.

Jeffries said rental availability would only get tighter, and prices higher in 2018.

"Overall the shortage of rental properties isn't going to get easier anytime soon."

"Demand will continue to exceed supply this year and as a result we are predicting that the national median weekly rent will rise between 3 and 5 per cent."

Have you been for a walk along the Hutt River recently, near Queens Drive, and noticed the new water treatment diversion outlet?

This outfall is part of the construction around the pipeline for ultraviolet (UV) treatment at Waterloo. Water that cannot be treated by UV at Waterloo is diverted and discharged into the Hutt River at this outlet.

Work around the pipeline is nearly complete. Roads works around the CBD/central residential area finished in early January 2018. There are still some minor activities taking place until the end of January around the Waterloo treatment plant, as we finish the final stages of the pump upgrades.

For more information about the UV pipeline check out wellingtonwater.co.nz... and don't forget to check out the info sign by the water treatment diversion outlet next time you're walking by the Hutt River (near Queens Drive).
