Work has begun on stabilising the banks of Te Awa Kairangi/Hutt River at Heretaunga, near the Royal Wellington Golf Club.
The work is part of a bigger flood protection project, estimated to be around $17.5 million.
Erosion from severe weather in July has undermined the riverbank and adjacent Hutt River Trail, taking out up to 20 metres of the bank. The trail has been severely damaged, making it too dangerous to use near the club. It has been closed until the repairs, estimated at $1.95 million, are completed.
Greater Wellington Cr Roz Connelly says the speed of the response reflects how much use the popular walkway gets.
"It is very good news and it reflects how much loved it is and how much use it gets, so we have got on to it quickly."

That's over 454 tonnes! While we have always recycled glass, with the new separated glass crates the quality of clean glass objects (with lids removed) has greatly increased.
What do you think of the new recycling system.

As usual some lovely words and photo by Louise Thomas.

"There have been some epic grey warbler/riroriro (Gerygone igata) battles in the back garden the past couple of weeks – well, as epic as it gets for something that weighs in at 6g. What I assume are three males have been wittering away and chasing each other around quite a small area when they disagree about who won the singing competition – little flashes of aerodynamic grey fluff battling for supremacy of the Acer palmatum conveniently sandwiched between a camellia, a kowhai, and a robust trellis covered in potato vine they seem to like climbing in. Having grey warblers in permanent residence here in Woburn, Lower Hutt is quite new (at least in my garden), with them only having turned up earlier this year. I hope they don’t exhaust themselves before they get to do any actual courting. This was taken last week, it is pouring with rain today so a temporary cease fire has been called. Fingers crossed they nest here."

Pascall Pulls Punches

Michael from Trentham

Bought a packet of Pascall Explorers ( billed as "the coolest lollies around" ) from the supermarket as part of a mixture for a lolly cake.
The packet says e150g which I take to mean estimate of 150 gram inside packet.
Well the packet weighed in at 114 gram.
Pretty poor, eh?

Pascall's changed the name of the product from Eskimos to Explorers a short time ago.
Maybe I should email the company in Australia.

"My ideal home would be one with a nice backyard, that is big enough for me to explore and potter around in the sun as I love toasting myself on a sunny day. I enjoy my daily walks so would love a family that would be keen to go out, explore with me and show me all the wonderful things out there. I have lots of love to give and like to be with my people. I LOVE food but this love and nose can sometimes get me into trouble. As I want to keep all the cuddles and tummy rubs for myself I am looking for a home as an only dog. Don't be fooled by my size, I can be cheeky and have jumped fences before, so am needing a home that has high fencing. I could live with older kids that are confident around big boisterous ladies like myself. I'm a real sweet heart waiting for a family to pick me. So if you think I'm the girl for you please contact us."

All those eligible should be, must be vaccinated against Covid 19. It is the only way out of this mess.

Compulsory/mandatory vaccinations will come eventually I am sure at least in many occupations and industries.

A legitimate vaccination and covid tested passport will be issued eventually and will need to be produced for entry to many places and transport.

The weight of believeable science and proof of success of covid vaccines are too great to deny any further.

Let's help each other (neighbourly) and ourselves by getting vaccinated. We have the best vaccine on the "market" and it's available free. It will combat to an effective degree all the known strains of the virus.
