Kia ora neighbours,

Industry experts say we should be preparing to pay more for our barista coffees in order keep local cafes alive, Stuff reports.

While the average price of a regular coffee is between $4.50 and $5, the cost of running a cafe has increased exponentially due to rising rents, wages, and milk prices. Former cafe owner Richard Corney says taking these into account, a fair price for a coffee is closer to $6.50 to $7:

"In the New Year, people have to be prepared to pay up to $7.20 for a large flat white, and $20 for a plate of brunch food. If you’re not, I completely understand, but we will see the demise of the hospitality sector."

How much are you willing to pay for your morning coffee? Share your thoughts below and don't forget to type NFP if you don't want your comment featured in the conversations section of The Hutt News.

Getting It Right - Current Local Stats on Covid Vac

The Mayor of Upper Hutt I am led to believe couldn't get it right a week or so ago when the UHCC slack-on-vax regulations were announced, so I have in my little hot hands the latest Covid vaccinated/unvaccinated stats (as at 6/12/21).

8000 eligible people in the Hutt Valley are unvaccinated.

The HV has 94% at least partially vaccinated and 89% fully vaccinated and these stats makes us almost the exact replication of NZ ( 94 and 88) as a whole.

The best of Upper Hutt is the Trentham area with 94% fully vaccinated and the worse is the Maoribank area with 83% fully vaccinated. But Maoribank is not the worse performing area in the HV - that stat belongs to Delaney Park area, Stokes Valley at around 76% fully vaccinated.

Just under 300,000 eligible people are unvaccinated in NZ
