A warning to parents who let their kids walk alone up Wise Street.

Alice from Wainuiomata

On Thursday afternoon I pulled over to help a boy who had been punched and thrown to the ground and had his bike smashed on top of him ... he was very upset, and in pain apparently he’d been looking for a young friends home address and couldn’t find the house. He asked for help from some older teenage boys in school uniform. They beat him up and threatened him. Now this boy may of had some intellectual difficulties or he was younger than he looked which actually makes this abhorrent behaviour even worse. Thank you to the other young lad who knew this boy for helping me to get him home. This behaviour especially to those more vulnerable is disgusting so if you hear of this event from your kids please report it to the school so these young men can be dealt with. This happened along wise street by Pencarrow Crescent around 4pm. And I hope the boy who this happened to (who I won’t name) feels okay now and knows that most normal people would help him and it’s not normal to be attacked like this, he should feel safe in his own neighbourhood.

Some Choice News!

Kia pai from Sharing the Good Stuff

DOC is rolling out a new tool to help figure out what to tackle first when it comes to protecting our threatened species and the things putting them at risk.

Why does this matter? As Nikki Macdonald from The Post points out, we’re a country with around 4,400 threatened species. With limited time and funding, conservation has always meant making tough calls about what gets attention first.

For the first time, DOC has put real numbers around what it would take to do everything needed to properly safeguard our unique natural environment. The new BioInvest tool shows the scale of the challenge: 310,177 actions across 28,007 sites.

Now that we can see the full picture, it brings the big question into focus: how much do we, as Kiwis, truly value protecting nature — and what are we prepared to invest to make it happen?

We hope this brings a smile!
