Hutt cook book proves a tasty delight for judges
Hi Neighbourly folk, if you enjoy a good curry you should check out Pass It On.
The book of family recipes passed down through generations took home two prizes at this year’s national book design, the only self-published book to be nominated.
Pass It On is a cookbook of authentic Indian Gujarati cuisine, written and published by mother and daughter Shobha and Keryn Kalyan from Lower Hutt.
The Publishers Association of New Zealand (PANZ) design awards attracted nominees from all round the country.
At the awards held in October, the book took home the prizes for best cover, best emerging designer, and was runner-up in the best cookbook category.
PS. I have this book and I can vouch for the recipes in it. It is a lovely book.

Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?
Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
