Another Hewson steps on to the big rugby stage
Dan Hewson has long has to live in the shadow of his famous uncle, ex-All Black Allan Hewson.
The Lower Hutt caretaker has played exclusively in weight-restricted grades throughout his amateur sporting career.
On Saturday, the 38 year-old will lead his Eastbourne team out onto Sky Stadium in the newly-established NZ Barbarians Under-85kg Club Cup tournament. It will no doubt be a massive career highlight for the 260-game veteran, whose uncle Allan was a slightly-built fullback that tipped the scales at just 73kg.
Eastbourne’s quarterfinal against Wellington will be played as a curtain-raiser to the Mitre 10 Cup clash between the Wellington Lions and North Harbour and will be televised live on Sky Sport.

Some Choice News!
Many New Zealand gardens aren’t seeing as many monarch butterflies fluttering around their swan plants and flower beds these days — the hungry Asian paper wasp has been taking its toll.
Thanks to people like Alan Baldick, who’s made it his mission to protect the monarch, his neighbours still get to enjoy these beautiful butterflies in their own backyards.
Thinking about planting something to invite more butterflies, bees, and birds into your garden?
Thanks for your mahi, Alan! We hope this brings a smile!
