Severe weather impacts across the city
Kia ora everyone,
We have a number of severe weather impacts across the city. Wellington Region Emergency Management have provided an update:
- Stay indoors where possible and avoid unnecessary travel.
- If you need to travel this afternoon/evening, plan ahead as strong winds can make driving hazardous.
- Take special care on coastal roads as there may be debris.
- Severe wind gusts like these can damage trees, powerlines and unsecured structures and can cause threat to life from flying items and falling trees.
- Destructive winds can cause widespread damage including powerlines and roofs, with dangerous driving conditions and significant disruption to transport and power supply.
- Be ready for possible power and communication outages
- Secure any outdoor items if safe to do so, like wheelie bins, trampolines and outdoor furniture that may blow around.
- If can back up any data and keep your laptops and phones charged in case of power.
- Any travel that is necessary please allow for delays and plan accordingly.
For Hutt specific information, we are keeping the Hutt City Council Facebook page and website regularly updated.
