Work begins on controversial Summerset retirement village
Construction has finally begun on a controversial retirement village in one of Lower Hutt’s wealthiest suburbs.
Summerset first announced its plan for what was then a $100million project in Boulcott in 2013.
Neighbours and a nearby school opposed the size and scale of the village, resulting in years of delays.
Summerset CEO Scott Scoullar confirmed this that work was finally “well and truly” underway and construction on the first building should start in December.
The estimated cost of Summerset at Boulcott is now $150m, with 2027 being touted as a likely completion date.
