Fatal fire in Wellington CBD

A fire broke out at Wellington's Loafers Lodge hostel in Newtown overnight which housed 94 people. Police say fewer than 10 people are believed dead but still to be confirmed.

What you need to know:
- Adelaide Road is expected to be closed during the morning and congestion around this area is likely.
- Residents in the area should stay inside with their windows and doors closed: The Asthma and Respiratory Foundation NZ is warning Wellingtonians to look after their respiratory health. For those with severe respiratory conditions, like asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or bronchitis, the smoke can cause flare ups. It is understood that the building contains asbestos, meaning that toxic particles from this material could also become airborne and pose additional risk.

Hi Neighbors, Just a heads up, I have just received a $170 fine for driving at 50km on Rata Street Naenae on a SUNDAY Morning. I wrote to NZTA pointing out and sending in a photo of sign stating that it was 30km on school days between those hours, but they said that the whole of Rata Street and some surrounding streets are 30km 24/7 and have been for over a year. Did I miss this been advised by council? Always good to be informed. Merry Christmas to all
