Volunteers needed at Bay of Islands Vintage Railway
We are the first railway in North Island, the most northerly in NZ, and a not-for-profit charity. We had the first passenger train in the country, and our aim is to carry on running vintage trains for our future generations to enjoy.
If you would like to help us as a volunteer, we need mechanics to help maintain our vintage diesel engines, guards and drivers as train crew, shopkeepers for our gift shop, and painters/metal workers/cleaners in the workshop. As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙
One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.
