With a view to celebrating my maternal grandfather's paternal grandparents' arrival in Auckland from Ireland via Liverpool on 23rd December 1859, I'm trying to trace descendents of some of the other passengers (my ancestors were Dromgools - misspelt Drongool on the passenger list). I'm hoping to put together a series of memoirs (not complete family trees) to publish a non-fiction work in December 2019 (160 years). If any of you are descended from Shalimar passengers on that date and are interested in contributing or have any hints, I'd love to hear from you.

I find it hard to find someone in TCDC who is concerned at the shocking condition of the roading in the vicinity of the Thames wharf, and will take the initutive to do something about it. What about a member of the Thames Community Board, isn't it a community concern.

What about a member of the Thames Community Board, isn't it a community concern.
The Hauraki Cycle Trail crosses this area, which is an utter disgrace, and has been for many years, I invite those responsible to visit the area so that they may be aware of what I am referring to. A good tidy up is required as it was in the days that the Thames wharf was used by a fleet of fishing boats and the twice weekly visit by a barge from Auckland which transported goods to Thames. I seek support on this issue from those who also care.

At last some real progress with the Thames bus trial. The Waikato Regional Council have asked for tenders from bus operators. Tenders will close on 15 October and the service is scheduled to start on 30 October subject to a final go-ahead from the successful bus operator.
The service will begin as a trial for six months, and if successful will be extended for a further 39 months subject to confirmation of funding being made available beyond the 6-month trial period and ongoing performance evaluation.

That's the view - some would say surprisingly - of the New Zealand Drug Foundation, and Massey University environmental chemistry expert Nick Kim.
With most Kiwi home buyers now getting properties meth tested and walking away from the deal if the result comes up positive, it begs the question whether it's possible to pick up a bargain if you're prepared to don rubber gloves and invest some elbow grease.
