Yesterday afternoon between 4pm and 5pm a dog strayed onto my 27yr old son’s property in Dunbeath Cres. Our gorgeous elderly cat was sleeping on the stones in her front garden when a dog grabbed her back end, thrashed her about, breaking her back, crushing her pelvis and destroying her back legs. Needless to say our darling had to be put down. We are devastated. This was a big dog with a wide jaw. (Puncture marks told the story). Could all dog owners please make sure that your property is secured so your dog can’t wander on their own. If children walk through a gate, double check with them that it is shut properly and the dog can’t get out. To all cat owners, love them dearly, after all, they may not be able to make it back in through your door.

Deanna was born in Tuatapere and moved to Arrowtown in her teenage years where she completed her high school days at Wakatipu High School.
Now living in Invercargill and married to a local farmer, she is proud mum to four children: three teenagers and one at primary school.
Most of Deanna’s working career has been office work but when her youngest child started school five years ago she decided to follow her passion which is in Aged Care. “I’m really focussed on discovering what the residents are interested in and how they’d like to spend their time,” she says.
Deanna is a fan of holding brainstorming sessions to discuss what activities they really enjoy and forms a plan based on that, saying “We’re doing all sorts of things from Casino Afternoons, a Bowls Tournament, It’s In the Bag, Round the World Travel… even an Ice Cream Trolley.”
Deanna has decided she will pursue her career even further and she is about to start Diversional Therapy training.
Her main aim is to bring fun and joy to daily activities through encouragement and support. “I’m big on talking and encouraging people to open up and get to know each other. Opening up hearts and having a good time!” says Deanna.

What a pleasure to meet Hayley Parsons of Clarks Beach, Auckland. She and husband Chris relocated this huge three-storey villa from Palmerston North to Auckland, and project managed the rebuild of Huntly House from London. Wonderful house, wonderful history.

Regardless of our different faiths, abilities, cultures, ages, orientations and genders - we want to make sure that our communities are safe and welcoming for all.
There are many ways to take part! From hosting a multicultural potluck or film screening to providing prevention information / resources in other languages, there are thousands of ways big and small to make our households, neighbourhoods, schools and businesses even more inclusive. It could even be as simple as learning from a neighbour how to say ‘hello’ in their first language or ensuring local footpaths are clear and accessible.
Want to share your thoughts? Let us know how you’re creating inclusive communities this month by tagging us in your social media posts or emailing us your photos, videos, or experiences to:
