Felled Pines - Stead Street

Dennis from East Invercargill

Good morning neighbours,
On my daily morning walk this morning I came across this scene (see pics) opposite the memorial Stead St. wharf.  I wonder why they are felling those pines as I would have thought they provided the perfect windbreak for industry located on the shoreside of those pines.  They could not be for timber as the trunks are too knotty for that, maybe the organization felling them are venturing into the firewood business..... perhaps?  I sure hope they are not going to  take out the whole line of pines leading down towards the Estuary Walkway.
