The Stories of the Aboriginal Fishers of North Stradbroke Island
Another interesting event we are having this Friday at 7.00pm is special screening of a series of short movies on the lives of Aboriginal fishers of North Stradbroke Island.
We will have 15 Aboriginal fishermen present for the screening, which consists of about 6 movies profiling the lives of the people on the Island and looks at their traditional fishing techniques. The Aboriginal representatives are visiting Hokitika for two days to look at traditional Maori fishing and white baiting techniques.
Entry to the film evening is by a gold coin Koha.
A big thanks to the team from Poutini Waioru for sponsoring this event.
Poll: Do you think banning gang patches is reasonable?
With the government cracking down on gangs, it is now illegal for gang members to display their insignia in public places whether through clothing or their property.
This means arrests can be made if these patches are worn in places like restaurants, shops, on public transport or ferries, and on airplanes. Arrests were made recently at a funeral.
Do you think this ban is reasonable?
