The Hokitika Green Team are planning to run a special screening of the action documentary ‘A Plastic Ocean’ on October the 15th. Unlike a traditional movie showing, the film distributors requires 30 tickets be reserved in the next 14 days in order for the screening to occur. A PLASTIC OCEAN begins when journalist Craig Leeson, searching for the elusive blue whale, discovers plastic waste in what should be pristine ocean. In this adventure documentary, Craig teams up with free diver Tanya Streeter and an international team of scientists and researchers, and they travel to twenty locations around the world over the next four years to explore the fragile state of our oceans, uncover alarming truths about plastic pollution, and reveal working solutions that can be put into immediate effect.
In the center of the Pacific Ocean gyre (is any large system of circulating ocean currents) our researchers found more plastic than plankton. A Plastic Ocean documents the newest science, proving how plastics, once they enter the oceans, break up into small particulates that enter the food chain where they attract toxins like a magnet. These toxins are stored in seafood’s fatty tissues, and eventually consumed by us.
