What's your opinion on the Northport expansion?
Northport is moving forward with its proposal to expand in order to cater for larger ships and more freight.
The project is going ahead despite the Ports of Auckland relocation put on hold after a government report found that the cost of the move would outweigh the benefits.
Northport will apply for resource consent on the site, which if approved, will more than double the berthage at its Marsden Point site.
The expansion is expected to create 400 jobs in the region, bringing economic growth to the region, fulfilling a key objective for Northport.
A floating dry dock is also included in the proposal which will allow ships over 250m long to berth for maintenance and repairs.

Twelve fires are believed to have been deliberately lit in the last eight months, including five which razed houses or empty baches, and, four fires in abandoned cars.
But Ahipara fire chief Dave Ross said many other fires have also been suspicious, including a large blaze which caused the evacuation of 100 homes on December 29, 2020.
Do you know any more about the arsons, or have you seen anything suspicious in Ahipara?

We think this was the best apartment on The Block NZ: Firehouse in Kingsland. Stacy and Adam did a stellar job, and now it is going to auction for a second time, on July 28. 2021. Great character apartment, great location.
