Free fire wood piles
Council is putting rings of firewood in three piles (one in Hastings, Flaxmere and Havelock North). Residents can help themselves but they need to take the rings home to chop up: No chainsaws or axes on the sites please. There won't always be wood there - it will be dropped off as it comes available. The three sites are: Flaxmere: Chatham Rd, by the gum trees; Havelock North: on the edge of Tainui Reserve, on Keirunga Rd; Hastings: Splash Planet car park; Grove Rd. As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙
One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.
