Allegiance Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is hosting the region's first tournament for the grappling martial art. The Hastings club is based at Stortford Lodge and the day-long tournament will take place on February 18. Allegiance owner and coach Damian Smith said it was a sign of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu's popularity within the region and around New Zealand, but also his way to encourage and grow the sport in Hawke's Bay.

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.
