Roundabout construction at the intersection of Frederick Street and Caroline Road
Starting next week (w/c 15 January) for 3 weeks, contractors will begin construction of a prefabricated roundabout at the intersection of Frederick Street and Caroline Road. The works will be undertaken between 7am and 5pm each day with traffic management in place. During construction, there will be no access to Caroline Road from Frederick Street (and vice versa).
Traffic management will include temporary road closures and speed restrictions (see map below). Spotters will be on-site to assist pedestrians and residents in accessing their properties and navigating through the work area.
We are opting to install a prefabricated system due to its lower cost and short installation time (approximately 5% of the cost and 3% of the time of a concrete alternative).
Due to high volumes of traffic on Frederick Street, this intersection has become very busy and hazardous for turning vehicles. The installation of a roundabout will help to reduce speeds at the intersection and improve safety whilst providing convenient turning opportunities.

Poll: Should all neighbours have to contribute to improvements?
An Auckland court has ruled a woman doesn’t have to contribute towards the cost of fixing a driveway she shares with 10 neighbours.
When thinking about fences, driveways or tree felling, for example, do you think all neighbours should have to pay if the improvements directly benefit them?
