Sustaining Tenancies
Sustaining Tenancies is a new initiative that has been rolled out the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) with the hope of being the “ambulance at the top of the cliff” instead of the bottom when the tenant ends up homeless.
- Once a tenant has been referred to the service (or self-refers) and they are prepared to commit to a specified time, up to 6 months, The Salvation Army case worker, me, will do an assessment to determine the immediate need and what the main threat that is causing the tenancy to be terminated. For example, if the issue was property damage or property maintenance the immediate need is to repair the damage or clear the section and we have access to contractors who can do this work.
- If the need was financial and rent arrears I could assist them as I am also a Budget Advisor and work through the finances with them. - -Attending WINZ appointments to make sure they are getting all they are entitled to.
As well as connecting them to other local networks as needed.
Message me or email: hastings.cm@salvationarmy.org.nz to make an appointment for assessment or for more information

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
-
59.8% Yes, supporting people is important!
-
25.8% No, individuals should take responsibility
-
