Statues and memorials
I have been reading, and listening to, many differing opinions about our statues and memorials. It certainly seems that they are all something that causes a great deal of anger from various groups in our country (and overseas). How about a radical solution - take down all statues, memorials, and plaques etc that are now existing. By that I mean all including war memorials (as a lot of them also include the names of people killed in the NZ wars). That way there would be no "insult" to different areas of our communities and maybe we could all get on with trying to live together in some sort of harmony.
Before people jump up and down calling me some sort of racist - I have no problem with racial differences (my family includes most races and we're all close) - my only intention is to clear the past from our mind sets to allow us all to just get on together. Let out history be taught in schools and remove continual reminders of the sins of ALL our fore-fathers
Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?
As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙
One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.
So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
-
59.5% Yes, supporting people is important!
-
25.9% No, individuals should take responsibility
-
14.6% ... It is complicated
