Job Seekers Post

Julie Neighbourly Lead from Havelock North

Let’s start a new trend in job seekers posts.
I want everyone who is looking for work to post what they can do, are really good at, have a particular talent for, are accomplished at, enjoy (with skills/talent) or want to learn.

People sometimes don’t think they have marketable skills, because they haven’t done the jobs that are advertised. That’s not true.

When you break down a job you find it requires all sorts of skills/talents/abilities that you may have. And employers are often more willing to train the right person to do the job than to hire someone who has the paper skills or background, if the person has the right personality.

A radio announcer is really just someone who can talk about anything, anywhere and constantly, without requiring much feedback. The person you can’t get a word in edgewise with.

An office admin is just someone who can time manage themselves, keep track of everyone and everything else, and point people in the right direction, to accomplish what they need, without completely losing their rag. A parent in other words.

It’s all about how you look at yourself and what you are doing everyday, and thinking what job
I can use that in. And looking at the jobs and thinking what does it take, that I can do, to do that job.

Journalists and reporters are good at writing and/or telling great stories about what they see.

Even gamers can use their skills to find careers. The armed forces literally have War Games divisions. Architecture and engineering (of all types, including civil engineering) use game skills.

So, if you are looking for work, try selling yourself here.

Post in the replies what you can do and what you want to do. Maybe the right employer will find you.

Poll: Should the government levy industries that contribute to financial hardship?

The Team from Neighbourly.co.nz

As reported in the Post, there’s a $30 million funding gap in financial mentoring. This has led to services closing and mentors stepping in unpaid just to keep helping people in need 🪙💰🪙

One proposed solution? Small levies on industries that profit from financial hardship — like banks, casinos, and similar companies.

So we want to hear what you think:
Should the government ask these industries to contribute?
