Whangamatā pool at risk as costs rise
A popular community pool in Whangamatā could close if extra funding can’t be found.
The pool attracted about 33,000 swimmers last year, including school children, local clubs, and recreational swimmers, making it a popular community hub and stepping stone for young swimmers.
The news comes amid a Stuff campaign to teach more kids how to keep safe in the water.

‘Simply irresponsible’: Wallaby likely kept as pet in Hamilton, regional council says
A wallaby spotted in Hamilton was probably kept as a pet, the regional council says - and that’s “simply irresponsible”.
The dama wallaby, which had an immature joey in its pouch, was spotted in Frankton on March 3, reported and killed, Waikato Regional Council says.
