Taharoa mine housing shake-up: Workers told to move as lease ends
Eviction notices have rattled workers at the Taharoa Ironsand Mine village, but the company says it’s a “rationalisation” to make the housing situation fairer.
Taharoa Ironsand Limited (TIL) operates the mine, about 14 kilometres southwest of Kāwhia. The company confirmed that eight employees recently received 90-day tenancy termination notices - but said they’d be rehoused.

‘Simply irresponsible’: Wallaby likely kept as pet in Hamilton, regional council says
A wallaby spotted in Hamilton was probably kept as a pet, the regional council says - and that’s “simply irresponsible”.
The dama wallaby, which had an immature joey in its pouch, was spotted in Frankton on March 3, reported and killed, Waikato Regional Council says.
