Progress on Te Awa and the Great NZ River Ride
If you’ve driven down State Highway 1 over the last month, you will probably have noticed the construction activity taking place beside the Waikato river, south of Ngaruawahia. The archway of the Perry Bridge is gradually taking shape; rising slowly as it is pieced together alongside the riverbank.
A few weeks ago the full design of the bridge was made public. A woven flax design along the deck features blue and green; a resin applied to the surface will also mean the bridge illuminates in the dark.
Adjacent seating and bike racks will complement the structure.
Completion is expected in the next few months and the bridge promises to be a significant feature of the Te Awa River Ride.
We extend a big thank you once again to our sponsors and supporters for making this iconic landmark a reality!
Just a reminder that Te Awa has bikes available to hire! Options are available from the Hamilton Gardens and Novotel Hamilton Tainui. Full day & half day hire is available, with the cost including helmets and bike locks: $30 Full Day or $15 Half Day.
