Kelvyn Eglinton reflects on this time as CEO of Momentum Waikato...

As the Waikato Regional Theatre rises out of the ground, the regional endowment fund approaches $44million while supporting an ever-growing range of causes, and Tirohanga Houchen Wellbeing Space begins delivering services to the community, I have been asked to reflect on which of Momentum Waikato’s achievements I am most proud of from my six years as its CEO.

My sense of satisfaction is not simply about the specific projects. It comes from seeing what is possible when a whole bunch of people are mobilised by the belief that philanthropy done differently can create real positive change for our community.

Tamahere Community Committee has launched a new website to provide the residents and ratepayers with a direct link to its elected committee and a channel for information and communications.

You are invited to join the mailing list - you will receive one email before each TCC monthly meeting (agenda) so you know what is happening and a second email after each monthly meeting (minutes) with info on what was discussed/decided. The mailing list also means you can be notified of any issue that impacts on you or for you to comment on if you wish (maybe 3 or 4 issues each year).

TCC meetings are open to the public so any one can attend and have a say.

We’re looking for the nicest neighbours in town, and Pam Driver of Burswood has shared her lovely neighbours, David and Lara Hurst, saying they “are just wonderful”.

This year, Pam had a missing cat, which was quite out of character. Driver let the Hursts know, and they joined the search, successfully locating him in the gap between the ceiling and roof of their neighbour’s house.

Pam said “They rescued him and brought him home to me... complete with some scratches! I hate to think what would have happened had he not been found”.

Pam nominated the Hursts to let them know she is thankful for them: “It’s so good to know I have such caring neighbours who have my back. Thank you neighbours!”

Nominate someone in your hood, and your special neighbour could feature on Stuff and Neighbourly as an inspiration to us all (plus there are prizes to be won!).
