Our Monarch Butterfly is under threat and this National Gardening Week Kiwis are being called upon to plant butterfly friendly plants to help save the caterpillars when they hatch in Spring and Summer.

Last year saw a national shortage of Swan plants, the main diet of Monarch caterpillars, causing a large number of the population to be wiped out.

Yates is getting behind the drive to avert a similar crisis this year by giving away various free butterfly friendly seeds including Yates new Butterfly Field Mix seeds between 1st and 14th October. Just register here during this time to receive your packet of seeds.

A national planting day will be held on 20th October. Plant a Swan plant or other butterfly friendly plants in your garden, in your neighbour’s garden, at school, in your local community garden – and let’s help Monarch butterflies flourish.

National Gardening Week aims to foster a love of gardening with a focus on growing not only plants but friendships, good health, strong communities and closer connections with nature.

PLEASE SIGN & SHARE EVERYONE - THIS AFFECTS EVERY NEW ZEALANDER PRESCRIBED ANY KIND OF MEDICATION

Do you think it's OK to change someone's psychiatric drugs, not tell their doctors, and tell the patient it is not possible for them to have adverse side effects because the drugs are 'the same'. While full knowing a percentage will have serious side effects such as anxiety, rage, increased depression, fatigue, brain fog, digestive issues - the list goes on - side effects which have led to losing jobs, breaking up relationships, self harm and suicide. This is what Pharmac has done, and they are taking NO responsibility for those that have been harmed through their decisions and IRRESPONSIBLE roll out of generic psychiatric medication. They just brush it off saying its the 'nocebo' effect (which, even if its true, does not excuse the harm knowingly caused). They tell us we can apply for special funding for the old meds (ALL the applications have been turned down). They need to be held accountable.
They will soon be doing this with an antiseizure epileptic drug that could have dire consequences not only for the patient but to society at large as well. e.g. someone having a seizure while driving!!

The supermarket's move is expected to remove 11.6 million straws from circulation and the waste stream each year. WOW.

Do you think other NZ supermarkets should follow suit?

If the warranty has ended, it doesn't mean your rights have!

A warranty is extra to the protections in the Consumer Guarantees Act (CGA) and can’t override or replace these. This means a retailer can't just say you're out of luck because the warranty period has ended.

The CGA says that products have to be of an acceptable quality which means they must be fit for purpose (or do what they're made to do), last for a reasonable amount of time, be safe, and be free from any minor defects. What is “acceptable quality” is based on what you could reasonably expect taking into account things like the nature of the goods, what you paid for them, and any particular statements made about the goods.

If you have a problem with something you’ve bought and the warranty period has ended, you might still be entitled to have it repaired or replaced. Check out our information on your rights as a consumer or phone CAB on 0800 367 222.
