Waipa District Council has issued a number of important press releases over the past week. Here are some key points you should take note of:

1. The move to alert level 4 means the council has put on hold all major projects, including work on the Cambridge Pool, Te Awamutu Water Supply, Waikeria Wastewater Pipeline, the new roundabout on Hanlin Rd outside St Peter’s and the velodrome.

2. The council has set up an executive committee to make decisions on its behalf during the level 4 period. The committee will have the power to make decisions on most governing matters.

3. Essential services such as recycling, road safety, water, customer support and animal control will continue to operate throughout the four-week shutdown.

Key services include:
* Customer support via telephone and online.
* Essential water services such as repairs to waste water connections and major water leaks.
* Parks services such as treescaping and line clearance when urgently required.
* Cemetery duties.
* Road safety, essential repairs to roading where necessary and monitoring of high-risk roads.
* Recycling.
* Urgent animal control work where there is a risk to the public and continued operation of the pounds.
* Urgent building compliance work where there is a risk to public safety.

4. The water alert level has been eased for Te Awamutu, Pirongia, Ohaupo and rural surrounds. It has been downgraded to level two, allowing outdoor watering for the first time since 12 February. Cambridge and Kihikihi water levels have now been lifted and residents can continue with their regular use as normal.

5. Citizenship ceremonies have been cancelled. Internal Affairs has agreed to waive the requirement for new citizens to attend citizenship ceremonies. Internal Affairs will now issue citizenship certificates to all applicants who have been approved for a grant of citizenship.

Dear concerned citizen,

We must now all stay home. Because that’s how we’ll stop the virus.

Level 4 measures will likely be in place for a number of weeks.

Don’t worry. During that time you will still be able to access all the essentials you need, including medicine, food, and other home supplies.

ALL THE TIME, NO EXCEPTIONS
It’s incredibly important that we all follow the Level 4 plan, all the time. No exceptions. Because doing so will save lives.

A CHALLENGE FOR EVERYONE
We realise these are big changes. But these are challenging times.
If we don't all stay home, the whole country will need Level 4 restrictions for longer.

SUPPORT OUR EMERGENCY SERVICE PEOPLE
We owe it to the essential services. Our nurses, doctors and everyone else on the frontline. They’re working tirelessly to save lives. We should all do everything in our power to help them do this.
Thank you to each and every person, for doing their bit.

While you’re staying at home:

STAY CONNECTED
• Don’t let physical distance stop you staying connected. Keep in touch with people using video calls, phone calls, chat and texting.
• If you know people who are living alone, vulnerable, or separated from their loved ones, regularly check-in with them.

STAY WELL
• Continue to practice good hygiene – wash your hands with soap. Then dry.
• Cough or sneeze into your elbow.
• Regularly clean surfaces in your home with disinfectant.
• Keep up regular physical exercise, and get some fresh air when possible. It’s good so long as this is solitary, or only with those you live with.

REACH OUT
If you need advice, support or help, try reaching out to friends, family, whānau or workmates.

There are plenty of ways to keep in touch and support one another over the next several weeks. Just don't forget about those with limited internet or mobile phone access!

People/Everybody will be ordered to self isolate for 14 days. I personally hope the NZ government does totally lock down NZ soon because that will be the only way they will bring covid-19 under control. The Country is hurting now. Lock down NZ for 14 days/2 weeks now instead of maybe having no option to order months of lock down later because covid-19 was killing people. I would rather suffer 14 days of self isolation than to possibly have a month or longer in isolation later. That's my opinion. What do you think?
