Awards trip not a bridge too far, says Hamilton City Council
Hamilton’s newest bridges have been labelled “a monument to council spending” after it was revealed $8691 was spent sending a staff member to an overseas awards ceremony.
This came alongside other costs such as opening celebrations totalling $58,602, which Hamilton City Council has staunchly defended as marking a “once-in-a-generation” event and boosting the city’s profile.

Derelict Tokanui Hospital site in line for a clean-up
Derelict Tokanui Hospital buildings will be demolished and contaminated land cleaned up so the site can be offered back to iwi.
The former psychiatric hospital, southeast of Te Awamutu, sits on land taken from Ngāti Maniapoto under the Public Works Act in 1910.
