Do you know about the shellfish warning in the Raglan area?

A warning has been issued urging people not to collect or eat shellfish from the Raglan coastline due to high levels of paralytic shellfish toxins being detected.

The naturally occurring toxins can be poisonous to humans, leading to stomach upsets, paralysis, respiratory failure and, in severe cases, death.

Clams create a construction water challenge

Pest clams have created a challenge for NZTA as it prepares to extend the Waikato Expressway to Piarere.

The project will need water and Lake Karāpiro’s a nearby source - but it’s also infiltrated by gold clams, first found in the Waikato River in May 2023.
