A day with the dead: Life in the mortuary

Reporter Sunday Star Times

A beautiful insight into how the morticians at Waikato Hospital look after our loved ones:

In the visiting room, Garth Wright will lay a colourful blanket over the sterile hospital sheet that covers a corpse. It sounds silly, he says, but it makes the person look warm and comfortable.

In the visiting room, Garth Wright will lay a colourful blanket over the sterile hospital sheet that covers a corpse. It sounds silly, he says, but it makes the person look warm and comfortable.

Before family arrive at the Waikato Hospital mortuary, he smooths any pain out of the face.

He leaves the curtains drawn and the door to the visiting room open to reduce the shock for the visitors. He welcomes them into the square little room and beckons them to sit next to the body. He says, "You can touch them, they're clean," and watches as they hold hands for the last time.

blue stickered black rubbish bag left at our letterbox

Diane from Frankton

After 3 weeks and not been collected by the council rubbish truck, I realised it had been blue stickered due to the weight of the bag, even though it was only half full. So this week I opened the bag to find piles of undelivered circulars/pamplets for supermarkets, warehouse etc. I should have rung the manager for the area to advise them that probably one of their lazy delivery persons just couldnt be bothered delivering them.
I divided the contents into 4 bags so the Council rubbish collector would pick the bag up. (Which they did)
Next time I will be informing an area manger, so please keep an eye out for this if happens at your letterbox.

Waikato Show 2018 update

Waikato Show

Another marvellous day out, the sun still has heat in it, but the shade is a bit chilly. Not as heavy a dewfall this morning, so no nicely silvered lawn as the sun rises higher.

Looking forward to seeing all the vegetable competition entire for 2018: - lets try to make them STUNNING!
