‘Absolutely keen’: Why Warriors want to make Hamilton home again in 2026 NRLW season

Libby Reporter from Waikato Local

They might have come away from Waikato winless, but record crowds have convinced the Warriors that Hamilton should be home for their women’s team again next year.

The Kiwi club finished their NRLW season on a high on Sunday, with a record-breaking 44-6 win over the Wests Tigers in Sydney, which saw them finish eighth (of 12 teams), three points outside the top-six playoffs, in what was their first campaign back after a four-year hiatus.

Poll: Are you a Te Huia fan?

Libby Totton Reporter from Waikato Times

All three Hamilton MPs appear to be united behind the retention of the Te Huia passenger rail service between Hamilton and Auckland, as well as potentially expanding it to Tauranga.

But whether Hamilton East’s Ryan Hamilton, Hamilton West’s Tama Potaka and soon-to-be Labour list MP Georgie Dansey have the combined power to shunt transport minister Chris Bishop and Prime Minister Christopher Luxon onto their line of thinking remains to be seen.

Are you a Te Huia fan? Tell us more in the comments (adding NFP if you don't want your words used in print).
