Endangered bats and lizards seem to be more important than the lives of locals, says a Cambridge man opposed to a large sand quarry on the outskirts of the Waikato town.

Earlier this week, a Resource Management Act hearings panel released its decision allowing RS Sand to extract up to 400,000 tonnes of sand annually from a site on Newcombe Road.
