Gordon McLauchlan is a prolific author and keen-eyed social commentator. His latest book is Great Tales from Rural NZ. He has written a number of best-sellers including The Passionless People, a social commentary on New Zealanders (1976), and The Farming of New Zealand, a history of NZ agriculture (1981). Both were updated and reprinted, in 2012 and 2007, respectively.
Gordon will be in conversation with his friend, fellow journalist and Tamahere resident Philippa Stevenson, the Green Party candidate for the Waikato in this year’s general election, on Sunday, July 2, 2-4pm at the St Stephen’s Tamahere church hall, corner of Airport Rd and Tamahere Drive. He will use his more than six decades of observation and writing about all manner of things New Zealand to comment about the current state of New Zealand and, particularly, its farming. He is well placed to comment on Waikato’s main industry as a former editor of the NZ Journal of Agriculture and author of the best seller, The Farming of New Zealand. Attendees are invited to bring along their favourite McLauchlan book to be signed by Gordon. There will be a light afternoon tea and a chance to chat to Gordon. Admission is $5 to cover costs.
