Waikato Regional Council puts the brakes on rates

The Waikato Regional Council has kept its rates increase to 1.4%, much lower than first expected.

The council’s annual plan sets total rates revenue at $157 million, with the proposed rates increase reduced from 3.4% following hours of budget discussions in February.

Police have confirmed Netflix will screen a reality-style documentary on fugitive Tom Phillips, after initially refusing to name the platform.

Phillips was shot dead on Te Anga Rd, west of Waitomo on September 8, after a near four-year manhunt for Phillips and his three children.
