Stolen car reunited with owner after 47 years

A South Waikato man has been reunited with his stolen car 47 years after it was taken.
Atiamuri pensioner Clive Macann never gave up searching for his 1935 Pontiac Coupe after it was stolen in Palmerston North in 1972.
He'd first set eyes on the "dream" car as a 13-year-old and was determined to own it. By 16, the car, which was in pristine condition and only one of six in New Zealand, was finally his.
But four years later he found himself in tears after discovering it had been stolen from a shed where it was being temporarily stored while he sourced a new gearbox.

Changes to a busy road in Hillcrest are being reviewed before they’re even finished after they “horrified” residents and shop-owners.
Local Murray Brown’s up in arms about the new layout on Cambridge Rd. Parking spaces have disappeared near Hillcrest Stadium and nearby shops, and he says the configuration leaves drivers backing out of parking spaces into oncoming traffic that they can’t see - which includes trucks and double-decker buses.

DOC is rolling out a new tool to help figure out what to tackle first when it comes to protecting our threatened species and the things putting them at risk.
Why does this matter? As Nikki Macdonald from The Post points out, we’re a country with around 4,400 threatened species. With limited time and funding, conservation has always meant making tough calls about what gets attention first.
For the first time, DOC has put real numbers around what it would take to do everything needed to properly safeguard our unique natural environment. The new BioInvest tool shows the scale of the challenge: 310,177 actions across 28,007 sites.
Now that we can see the full picture, it brings the big question into focus: how much do we, as Kiwis, truly value protecting nature — and what are we prepared to invest to make it happen?
