Hi everyone,
My wife, Horiana Henderson, is running in the by-election. We have lived in the Hamilton East Ward for more than 30 years so she is very aware of issues relating to our neighbourhood (e.g. Council proposing to close the Brooklyn Road leg of 5 Crossroads and increasing rates by 8.9% with compounding 4.9% increases in the following 2 years while at the same time planning to spend $34 million on the Cook Street cycleway at a cost of $12.5 million per kilometre). What would you do if it was your job to fix Hamilton's CBD?
More alcohol restrictions, more lighting, busking rule changes and a whole lot of lobbying - these are some ways Hamilton leaders want to sort out the CBD.
Crime and anti-social behaviour in the area has been in the spotlight after recent news of a man defecating in the street near a city pub and another who flipped tables out the back of a bar after being found scrounging cigarette butts and asked to leave.
