Protocol on Hitchhiking
I am still learning about local culture and customs in New Zealand and wanted to know what is acceptable and expected when it comes to hitchhikers.
a) Is it normal for people to ask for a ride?
b) Is it usual (or unusual) to give a lift?
c) Is there anything a driver should be mindful of if he/she decides to give a lift?
We don't have the practice of hitchhiking in Singapore where we are from, so the only ideas I have about this phenomenon come from movies (which are predominately about something going wrong).
